How this calculator works

Cost per mile = (monthly fixed costs + monthly variable costs) ÷ monthly miles.

Fixed costs are bills that come due whether the wheels turn or not, like the truck payment, insurance, plates, permits, ELD subscription, phone, and parking. Divide them by your miles and you get your fixed cost per mile. That number shrinks when you run more miles, which is why a truck sitting at home still costs you money.

Variable costs rise and fall with miles. Fuel, maintenance, tires, tolls, and driver pay are the big ones. Your variable cost per mile stays about the same no matter how much you run.

Use a real month, or better, the average of the last three to six months from your bank statements and settlements. Count all miles, loaded and empty, because you pay for both.
